THE NEWEST HIGH TEMPERATURE METAL GASKET FILLER 'THERMICULITE by FLEXITALLIC
PRESS RELEASES
March 2002
Innovative solution provides industry standard performance
An innovative development from Flexitallic has produced an industry standard solution for gaskets in more challenging environments.
Flexitallic’s spiral wound gaskets are already recognised as the benchmark against which others are judged, and are now available with the company’s patented Thermiculite material as a filler.
Thermiculite provides resistance at high temperature (over 1000 ° C / 1832 ° F), resistance to chemicals, oxidization and corrosion.
The development means that companies are guaranteed a high performance solution at an economical price, and can expect a reduction in down time.
For many companies this is more cost-effective than a product engineered down to a low price, but which doesn’t comply with industry standards and proves unreliable.
It also means that the material is now available across the entire range of Flexitallic products, including in sheet form and as a facing on Flexpro TM (kammprofile) gaskets. For additional information on the company / products visit us at www.flexitallic.com .

Flexitallic’s record-breaking answer to a difficult burning question
When Kemira Fertilisers of Ince, near Chester, wanted to replace a gasket in a nitric acid burner, they faced a tricky question. How could they guarantee an efficient seal, keep downtime to a minimum and avoid the problem of oxidization, without resorting to asbestos?
Their answer was provided by Flexitallic’s unique high performance Thermiculite material. Resistant to high temperatures (over 1,000° C), to chemicals, oxidization and corrosion, it provides an excellent sealing solution in a wide variety of applications.
However, this particular case was to prove a record-breaker even for Flexitallic, as the gasket had to be manufactured to a diameter of 3 meters – the largest Thermiculite - coated Kammprofile gasket in the company’s history.
Steve Densley, Product Engineer, designed the solution and managed its installation, "There is a major objective in the industry to find effective replacements for asbestos", he said, "we can provide solutions way beyond the asbestos performance limit and are delighted with the results."
The properties of Thermiculite make it an ideal sealing material in nuclear, offshore and seawater cooling applications and (as in this case) in the manufacture of ammonium/nitrogen based fertilizer. For additional information on the company / products visit us at www.flexitallic.com . |
